WHAT IS PILATES?
Pronounced (pi-LAH-teez), this unique body conditioning system was developed by Joseph Pilates and brought to America in the 1920’s. Pilates exercises are performed in a flowing, controlled manner, combining gradual movements with methodical breathing. Aspiring for precision with correct form, each movement is methodically thought out and extremely effective. Equivalent periods of relaxation and exertion provide a perfect balance for strengthening and stretching muscles and the spine while significantly improving bone mass.
Pilates is not your typical exercise class. It is an effective workout that helps improve flexibility and build muscle – without adding bulk. Pilates focuses on flexibility and strength training, creating long and lean muscles. Whether you have an injury or looking to improve muscle tone and challenge your workout, Pilates is for every body! Our focus is on form and quality rather than quantity or repetition.
